Private half-day from Salzburg

Golling waterfall & the Lammerklamm gorge

Two of the most spectacular natural sights south of Salzburg, half an hour from the city: a waterfall that drops 76 metres in two falls, and a narrow gorge where the river Lammer has cut turquoise pools into the rock. You walk through the gorge one way; your driver waits at the other end.

Update 27 October 2026: winter break

The Lammerklamm gorge is already closed for the winter and the Golling waterfall closes on 2 November 2026. Both reopen in spring – the gorge in April, the waterfall in May. Until then the closest day out is Hallstatt & Lake Gosau.

After rain

Waterfalls and gorges are at their most impressive after a wet night. The paths are wet too, so good shoes matter.

Good to know

  • •Wear shoes with grip: the paths are wet and there are many steps at the waterfall.
  • •Pushchairs are hard work on both paths; a baby carrier is better.
  • •The waterfall's official season starts on 1 May, 9:00–18:00; in 2026 it closes for the winter on 2 November. In winter the path is not maintained.
  • •The Lammerklamm is open daily from April to the end of October in all weather (April, May and October 9:00–17:00, June and September to 18:00, July and August to 19:00) and is closed in winter because of rockfall.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth going when it rains?
Yes – the water is at its most dramatic. Bring a rain jacket and good shoes; both paths are open in all weather during the season.
Is the driver also a tour guide?
RIED.TAXI is a fully licensed passenger transport company, specialised in private day trips. Guiding is a separate licensed profession in Austria, so your driver doesn't explain sights and history as an official guide – but he's a local with many years on these routes, plans the day with you and gives you the best tips at every stop. It's your day: he can be just your driver, your concierge, or walk along with you (you cover his ticket where there is one). Where an attraction offers a guided visit, you can join it on site.
Can we stay longer or leave earlier?
Of course. You pay for the actual time from pickup to drop-off at €50 per hour for the whole car. Half an hour longer costs €25 more.
Is the €250 per person?
No, it's for the whole car with up to 5 passengers. Tickets for attractions are extra and paid on site.
Can we be picked up outside Salzburg city?
Yes. We pick up anywhere in Salzburg province and Upper Austria – hotel, holiday flat, station or airport – and the drive to you is free. The clock starts when you get in.
Can the day end somewhere else, like Vienna or Munich?
Yes. The hourly rate applies while we travel with you, and Ronald gives you a personal quote for the driver's return journey.
How do we book?
Send Ronald the date, your pickup address, the number of travellers and any children's ages by WhatsApp, e-mail or phone. He checks the day and confirms personally; there is no automatic booking.
